the Mid-Summer edition

August 13, 2021

And here we are again . . . summer . . . warm hot . . . COVID. Just a few thoughts . . .

This Sunday we’ll continue our series that looks at D Problems: our emphasis is discouragement (and how we can be encouraged). Please feel free to send me your requests for songs of worship and praise that you would like to sing. And if you aren’t receiving the lyrics to the songs each Sunday but would like them, drop me a line.

Thanks to Matt and Johania for sharing our July messages while I was away. Their growth (and growing confidence) is amazing. Thanks, too, to the members of our worship team who led through the summer . . . and we welcome Joelle and Janae to the team.

Chloe has been working at a Camp Cherith in Lanark through the summer; she should return to us shortly before she heads of to York University in the fall.

Although he thought he would have the summer off, Matt has also been involved with the camps (as he was in years past).

We continue to meet Wednesday evenings for a time of prayer together. There is a new ZOOM link:   e-mail the church office.

We have begun to plan for the fall . . . Wednesday will be our prayer night . . . Tuesday will be our get-together-to-learn night. Each Tuesday there will be a different opportunity to study/discuss/learn. Life is busy; join us as you can (ZOOM links to come):

  •             1st Tuesday: Young Adult Question and Answer
  •             2nd Tuesday: “Traditional” Bible Study
  •             3rd Tuesday: Book Study/Discussion (in September: Jesus Is ___, by Judah Smith
  •             4th Tuesday: TBD

The musical group JCL (Jesus Christ Living) has asked if they can lead in praise and worship in a more informal evening setting. Their first “concert” is scheduled for 7:00 pm September 26. They will lead from the sanctuary; for those who cannot attend in person, the musical evening will also be streamed from our Facebook and YouTube sites. We may occasionally also have an evening of worship and praise led by the worship team. And we are planning a Christmas Eve Carol Sing December 5 at 7:00 pm.

Oh, and a reminder that each month there is an opportunity to give to a special church mission along with our regular tithes and offerings (and thank you for your faithful giving through the summer):
